About Us

Welcome to our one-of-a-kind photography studio in North Wales (LL18 3AY)

Featuring a fully equipped studio, a pool, a striking neon wall, and beautifully styled interiors, our space offers a unique backdrop for creatives of all kinds. Whether you're a professional or hobbyist model or photographer, the studio is available to hire by the hour.

The space is owned by Russ—a multi-award-winning, exhibited, and published photographer—who is also available for editorial-style portraits and model portfolio commissions. We do not offer family or wedding photography, but several photographers who hire our space do provide those services.

You will encounter nude photography as you click and scroll throughout this site! Along with boudoir being a hugely popular genre of photography, as a studio, we have no problem with lingerie, and we allow art nude level here, but not 'adult' work.

Studio Hire

For just £20ph, you can hire Splash Point Photo Photography Studio! Located in North Wales, our studio offers incredible value for money. With unique features and amenities that set us apart from most studios, there’s no doubt we could charge twice as much with less in any major English city—but we’re proud to keep things accessible right here at home.

To use studio strobe lighting, your camera must have a centre-pin hotshoe to trigger the lights. Russ is always available to help, but we encourage new photographers to feel confident using manual mode and to research the basics of studio lighting beforehand. Knowledge in manual mode is essential. You’ll need to stay below your camera’s maximum shutter sync speed—1/125s is typically a safe choice across most camera and lighting systems, and pair that with a fixed ISO and aperture. In the studio, you are controlling the exposure, not your camera.

If you're using a mirrorless camera with real-time exposure preview, make sure to disable that setting in your menu, or your n your viewfinder/screen will be plunged in to darkness. On the Canon R5, this setting is called Exposure Simulator, but naming will vary between brands. This quirk can trip up even seasoned photographers when they first switch to mirrorless for studio work—so it’s worth checking in advance!

"An Aladdin's Cave, a Tardis, like a kid in a candy store"!

Occasionally something comes along that takes you completely by surprise, and Splash Point is definitely one of those! On the outside, a perfectly normal looking seaside bungalow - but on the inside it couldn't be more different. An extensive range of rooms (over three floors!) in different styles with a huge range of props. There's an outside shooting area too, an indoor swimming pool, and even (wait for it), a conventional studio space with an infinity curve and backdrops. Russ couldn't be more helpful and accommodating, with copious supplies of tea and coffee on hand. A real gem of a studio, this definitely won't be my last visit.

To truly understand Splash Point, you must understand that the place was crafted by the people who created The Tardis in Doctor Who. The [main] studio has flash heads numbering in the double figures, the infinity cove, the neon wall, props galore or the free floating stairs. Once you've found your way around the embarrassment of riches and facilities, you're free to create your images, unless of course you're struggling, at which point in steps Russ with a cup of tea and as much assistance as you need to get the job done. I've used studios in the past costing twice as much with half of what Splash Point offers!

I absolutely love Splash Point studios! I could never tire of visiting. Russ is so lovely, and I find it super easy to get along with him. He was a fantastic host throughout the day, making a belting cuppa and even cooking me some food on my break. The most magical Christmas tree and decorations (mid-November - New Year), and the decorations alone are worth a trip if you’re looking for that magical Christmas shoot.

I had my first studio day at Splash Point, and what a day it was! Russ has such an amazing space with a huge range of shooting locations. The studio itself is extremely well-equipped and is such a cool space with tons of exciting sets to use. Then the house has endless shooting opportunities - such a nice vibe. Another amazing shoot at Splash Point. This time I decided to venture to areas away from the main studio space, shooting in the bedroom, the very grand hallway and the pool. You've heard the term, "like a kid in a candy store", that's how I'd describe any photographer walking into the unassuming-looking bungalow which gazes out to the Irish Sea in Rhyl. Don't be fooled, though, by first appearances; Splash Point Photo has an incredible range of equipment along with numerous places to shoot - these include the 'normal' (it's anything but typical) studio space, a pool, mini gym, boudoir and impressive reception hall. The biggest problem you'll have is planning your time and using it wisely.

Booking Russ as a photographer
Please include as much information as possible. Possibilities are endless, so what do you want to achieve? What are the vibes? Do you have links to example images? Can you give links to your social media or portfolio profile? If you're a business booking, it'll give me a vibe of your brand. If it's a private booking, I can see who I'm potentially working with, and it'll help me consider lighting and ideas.

I'm not a family photographer if you just need some pretty pictures of yourself, if however you want more a model-like experience or an editorial piece, then I'm your man! I'm a terrible businessman, and I will absolutely turn something down in favour of integrity over money if I don't believe I can offer any value to it.

Again, please give as much detail as possible. Prices will always depend on the usage of the images. Photographers are the copyright holders of every image they take, so prices vary wildly while taking that into account. It'll depend on whether those images are to be seen by a small following on your social media, or are for a mass advertising campaign. Think of it as radio / TV play for a musician, the more the song gets heard, and the bigger the station / programme, the more the artist's contribution is worth.

Outside of creativity, a photographer is merely a problem solver that understands both the limitations of physics and their available tools to tackle it, which is why a fancy camera will do you no good if you can't use it - so tell that to people the next time they tell you that your fancy camera must be amazing at taking photos - and even then, let's face it, it's probably more the lens and your decision-making; a good camera just aids that process with simplicity and convenience.

An introduction to the Bowens Esprit, a workhorse that just keeps on galloping! Having said that, the only Bowens strobe light I've had fail me so far is the Gemini GM250R, which ironically is newer. Digital strobes have more tech to go wrong, and often times, it's tech that isn't needed for every day non-specialist use.
